Although SPRK MUSIC predominately focuses on helping musicians connect and get their talent noticed by fans and industry professionals, we also find it important to help other arts where music has an involvement such as Film – also a big passion of our Founder and Managing Director, Levi Moscovici.
SPRK MUSIC is extremely proud to be doing projects in partnership with AWFF. The Asian World Film Festival (AWFF), founded by Kyrgyz public figure Sadyk Sher Niyaz, brings the very best of a broad selection of Asian World cinema to Los Angeles to draw greater recognition to the region’s wealth of filmmakers and strengthen ties between the Asian and Hollywood film industries. Uniting through cross-cultural collaboration, the Festival champions films from over 50 countries across Asia, spanning from Turkey to Japan and from Russia to India and South-East Asia. The Festival is unique in that it predominantly screens Oscar and Golden Globe submissions for Best International Feature Film and Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language respectively. All films that participate in the Festival will have a unique chance to be guided through the challenging awards season and showcased to members of the Motion Picture Academy, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and all Guilds for enhanced exposure, media attention and awards consideration. AWFF is a non-profit organization under Aitysh USA.
Due to the current challenging circumstances within the film industry, AWFF has been strengthening its online presence and since last summer has presented a number of screening programs, Q&A panels and special events. This included a Bruce Lee Tribute Weekend, to commemorate what would have been his 80th birth anniversary, with screenings of a number of his films and a live Q&A panel with daughter Shannon Lee and guests. Chamchoum continued, “We are excited to confirm that acclaimed, award-winning actress and AWFF Board Member Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels, Kill Bill, Chicago) will be moderating one of our upcoming Q&A panels, talking with Peter Ho-Sun Chan, the award-winning director of Chinese Oscar submission for Best International Feature Film, Leap.
SPRK MUSIC sponsored the 6th Annual Asian World Film Festival which took place online between March 10th – 15th. Viewers were given a variety of Oscar and Golden Globe submissions screenings, as well as exclusive world premieres and director Q&As. As well as film screenings there were a number of music interludes during the Ceremony which were performed by a few SPRK MUSIC users and also other major performers from across Asia. These included globally respected virtuoso for jaw harp Olena UUTAi from Yakutia (Russian Fed), Lebanese Composer and Performer Tarek Rahbani with his latest Composition Requiem 2020, Performer Olivia Lin from Indonesia, Performer and Actress Yuki Shibamoto from Japan, Composer Farzad Goodarzi from Iran and Performer Jungmin from South Korea.
We are very excited to be introducing our 1st ever competition for Film Composers in partnership with AWFF later this year. With 3 highly acclaimed judges – the first, a Golden Globe Winner, the second, one of the most prolific composers in Hollywood, and last but not least an internationally acclaimed musician. We are sure that this will be a very exciting opportunity that could open doors for many up-and-coming film composers around the world. If you are a composer and would like to take part, please watch our Facebook and/or Instagram page as we will be announcing the dates there.
